Gnosis

Gnosis (グノーシス, Gunōshisu^?) are mysterious entities from the Xenosaga series that are hostile toward mankind. They are mostly comprised of sodium chloride (pure salt); when translucent, they are composed of water and sodium hydroxide. It is normally impossible to come into contact with them, and if someone is touched by a Gnosis, they will either die by turning into salt, or become a Gnosis themselves, with very rare exceptions like Shion Uzuki.

By using the Hilbert Effect (an anti-Gnosis system), Gnosis within the radius of its waves are drawn into the same physical plane as humans, allowing them to be affected by conventional weapons. Gnosis also appear to have the ability to possess machinery and integrate it into their body, thus giving themselves extra abilities based on the machinery they possess.

Some Gnosis types also appears as enemies in the games Namco × Capcom, Project × Zone, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier and Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier EXCEED.
